Achieving Success in Life

Let me share with you one experience I had many years ago. I love basketball. I remember learning how to dribble a ball at the age of seven or eight. But it wasn’t until I was in the university that I decided to join a basketball team. Our team wasn’t really an extra-ordinary team. We didn’t have all wins. In fact, we had more losses than wins in all the years that I was in the team. I remember on the last semester that I played, we only won one out of the five games we had to play.

There was one particular game that we played that I can still remember up to now. It was opposite the school’s champion. I was in for a drive. Then, I saw the opponents’ biggest girl up in front of me, trying to block my way. I knew I was no match for her. We were like a David and Goliath. I was feeling out of breath and I felt just like giving up at that moment. But something inside of me keeps pushing me to go on. I knew deep inside of me that if I tried, really tried, I’d make the basket. Well, I did!

Although we didn’t win our match with that team that day, there was something I’ve won. I won a lesson, a great inspiring lesson. Making a basket in basketball is like life. Sometimes it’s easy. But most of the times it’s hard. Trials block our way. They can be either big or small. But then, if you are persistent and try hard to overcome the obstacles, you’ll surely earn your reward.
